Understanding feelings & emotions

Feelings of fear, worry, dread or frustration can be causes of anxiety.

Visual prompts and reminders can help children and young people identify and communicate their emotions and levels of distress or anxiety and support their emotional literacy and wellbeing.

A child-friendly TomTag prompt which uses picture cues can encourage children and young people of all abilities and communication levels to recognise, understand and appropriately communicate their emotions and build their emotional vocabulary.

Use the TomTag Feelings diary to help children and young people identify their fear or anxiety triggers and explore positive ways for gaining control of their emotions in difficult situations.

Anxiety management strategies can be individualised to the unique needs of a child or young person with a personalised TomTag picture checklist. A handy portable tool to remind them how to find calm in times of fear, worry, dread or frustration.
